Having sold my old PS2 means that I can once again afford some more bits for my car, without making my bank manager write angry leters to me!

A busy (read expensive) month this one! I am however now skint once again, but have made a reasonable pile of parts this month!

Rear Lights

Set of Landrover Series 1/2 lights. Indicators and Stop/Tail lights. Went for this route as I think they look great on the back of a Locost, and they are very cost effective! The set cost me £24 delivered (and delivery was £5!) including the numberplate lamp. There is also a Fog Lamp which is one of the square 'Ring' branded types. Cost me £5 delivered. Total cost of rear lights, £29!

Wiring Loom

The picture above is the loom out of a Mk2 Escort. Its a bit of a jumble at the moment and also very mucky (hence the newspaper) however it just needs sorting out, and a few redundant circuits stripping out and it will be ready for the car. I will put some more pics up when i have sorted it out! I thought I would do it this way as I have plenty of time in the evenings at the moment and it gives me something to do. Whole loom only cost me £15 so I am not going to complain!

Control Switches

The ignition switch has 2 keys and all the normal features of any ignition switch (accessory position, ignition position and start position).

The toggle switches are (from left to right): Indicators (on-off-on), headlights (off-on-on) and main/dipped beam changeover (on-on). I have also got the switches for the fog light and fan over-ride. Both of which are simple on-off switches, but have LED's in the ends of the toggle to show they are on. (I might chnage the indicator switch and main/dip switch to use spade terminals and get all the levers to match).

There are problems with toggle switches at SVA, but I am planning on mounting all of them in the exempt area around the steering wheel to get around this.

The start button is one of the nice Savage buttons. Its got blue LED illumination, which I am going to connect to the charge warning light so that it stays on until the engine is started, and then goes out. I am not sure if a relay is needed between the switch and the starter solenoid yet, some people say you need one, others say you don't! (Update - I decided it was sensible to put a relay in, for the small amount of hassle it was worth. Heres a wiring diagram just incase you cant figure it out yourself - Click Me)

The hazard switch is from a Mk2 escort. I chose to use the original switch as its a bit special with 7 pins, instead of the normal 6. Which means you only need 1 relay to run the indicators and hazards (keeps the loom a lot simpler). Unfortunately there wasnt one with my loom, so I had to find one.

I have decided to do away with all of the controls present on the Sierra steering column including the ignition switch, mainly as I am now using the Escort loom which has to be modified to suit anyway. Also the Escort doesn't use switching relays for the headlights etc and the Sierra column requires them as the switches cannot take the current. Removing the switches from the column also make the car look less production like, and allows you to arrange the controls as you want to. The problem with doing this is it leaves you with only one anti-theft device, and the SVA regs require you to have at least 2. The second one for my car is a battery cut-off switch with a removable key. Many people have passed SVA this way, so I hope I dont have any problems either.

Steering Wheel

12" Mountney wheel. To be honest I wasn't really sure what sized wheel to get, but people seem to think 10-12" is about right. I got a 12" one as it was on eBay at the right price (unusual as they often go for silly cash). Will see how I get on with it, but its an easy modification to change to a smaller wheel if needed.
