I have been into radio controlled models for about 10 years or so, and have been building them [scratch built boats mainly] for 5 or 6. I have been into radio controlled cars for about 7 or 8 years. So far I have had a Flying Point buggy and the CEN and now the Mad Armour.

For the full break down of my truck build and my review click here (pdf file)

The Mad Force is a live axle truck; the axles are solid font and back. It can be bought in kit form or RTR. I have chosen to go for the kit version as it has better build quality, I don't need the extra radio gear and I would rather build it myself!

Power:- It is powered by Kyosho's GX-21R engine. This is not the best .21 engine available, and when it eventually dies (as is inevitable) I will probably replace it with an O.S. 21RG-X which is a much more powerful engine.

Weight:- A lot. Well compared to my CEN touring car. The truck weighs about 4.5kg all in. Very sturdy!

Transmission:- The Mad Force is set apart by its unique transmission set up. Firstly it has a 3 speed transmission as standard, and then the second stage of the drive is chain...which is another unique feature. And I have not had any trouble with it at all.

Chassis:- The chassis is ladder frame, which is also different to most other trucks! It's all made from 3mm duralumin and is incredibly tough, it will easily stand up to the abuse it gets.

Suspension:- The suspension uses the same shocks as the Inferno buggy. These are all aluminium shocks and are very tough. There is an upgrade available to put 8 shocks on the truck. But this actually makes the handling of the truck worse...it just makes it look better!

Wheels:- The wheels and tyres are huge. The tyres are 175mm (7") diameter. And they are supplied without foams, and it's a matter of opinion whether or not you put some in! I left them out, and the truck handles brilliantly over rough terrain!

There are 2 versions of the Mad Force...there is one with a truck style body (the actual Mad Force) and there is one with a Humvee body (the Mad Armour). I am building the Mad Armour (see pic above), there are a few differences between the two trucks. The major difference being the bodywork! But the Mad Armour also has a longer rear dog bone as there were issues with them popping out of large jumps with the Mad Force.

My Project Truck
In the gallery you will find pictures of my truck in all its glory!

Mad Armour Modifications this is a PDF file showing the modifications I have carried out on my truck.

With  3 speed transmission the truck is faster than the majority of monster trucks out there. It's good for about 45mph with the stock engine. It will also pull wheelies on command, given the grip! You can also see the dual disk brakes in the picture; these are powerful enough to flip the truck over forwards, even with a standard servo working them!

The link below is a direct link to all the pictures of my truck that I have shared on RC Pics along with some pics of my other car. There is also a long video available for download from there.
