Alternatives to Bright Data for Proxies: What to Actually Consider
Bright Data is the most recognized name in the proxy space — 400M+ IPs, a deep feature set, and pricing that reflects all of it. But "alternative" means different things depending on why you're looking. The three most common reasons people move away from Bright Data are cost, complexity, and overkill for their actual use case. Each points to a different kind of replacement.
Before listing options, it helps to be honest about what Bright Data actually is: a full data platform with proxy infrastructure underneath. Most alternatives are either (a) infrastructure-only providers with simpler pricing, (b) scraping API layers that abstract away proxy management entirely, or (c) both. Knowing which layer you need determines which alternative fits.
- If you need residential IPs with straightforward per-GB pricing: Bright Data's residential network is enormous, but you pay for that scale even when you don't need it. Providers like Geonode offer residential proxies starting at $5/GB at 1GB, dropping to $1.50/GB at scale — per-GB with no per-port or per-thread fees, which removes a lot of the billing surface area that catches people off guard with larger platforms. The network runs across 140+ countries with rotating per-request IPs or sticky sessions held for up to 30 minutes. That covers the overwhelming majority of geographic targeting and session-continuity requirements without the overhead of a full data platform.
- If your core problem is anti-bot bypass rather than raw IP volume: A scraper API is usually more efficient than managing proxies manually. Scraper APIs handle JS rendering, CAPTCHA solving, and anti-bot mitigation at the request layer, so you're paying per successful result rather than per GB of traffic — including retries and failed requests. This matters a lot at production scale: a residential proxy bill that looks reasonable per GB can compound quickly when 30–40% of requests fail and get retried. Per-request pricing on a scraper API makes the cost of a successful page retrieval predictable.
- If you need ISP or datacenter proxies: This is where Bright Data's depth is hardest to match. ISP proxies (residential IPs hosted on datacenter hardware) are a smaller segment of the market and fewer providers offer them
