Immobiliser
I decided to invest in an immobiliser for my car. Its still at a stage where its easy to fit (I really do not want to be pulling the dash off again in a couple of months to fit one!). Its a Hawk 203 transponder type, so theres no touch pad on the dash, and the transponder loop is hidden behind the dash. It arms automatically 20secs after you turn the ignition off, and disarms automatically as long as you wave the RFID key fob in the right direction! The great thing is this will count as my second anti theft device, and will get rid of the need to fit a battery cut off switch in the battery feed. This will neaten the underbonnet wiring up somewhat. It also allows you to cut off 3 seperate circuits to prevent the car being started. Cost £25, which is a bargain I think.
Easter Holiday
Back home again on the 26th of this month. Got 4 weeks to play with the car, inbetween revising for finals. Hopefully this amount of time will let me get it finished and ready for SVA in the summer (straight after my exams are done)!
The list of jobs to finish the car:
Re-tension the cambelt up - carefully to avoid upsetting the timing! - Done
Glue the speedo magnet to the rear cv joint and see if it works! - Done
Check the length of the front brake flexis - I think they might be a bit tight on full lock. - Done, OK.
Stamp the VIN number onto a plate and weld it onto the chassis under the bonnet somewhere (oh the poor powdercoat!)
Go around the wiring loom and cable tie it in properly with good quality ties and make sure its not chaffing anywhere - Done
Shorten the wires on the rear lights - they are about 500mm too long at the moment, also need to put a grommet in the body where the wires go through. - Done
Fit the immobiliser and hide the wires away! - Done
Cable tie the handbrake cables up so they arent chaffing on anything - Done
Stiffen the exhaust bracket - needs a couple of fillets welding in to stiffen it up - Done
Adjust the front suspension - needs to be raised up about an inch, and the camber/toe needs sorting out - Done
Somehow adjust the fuel pipe where it exits the pump, as its currently touching the panhard rod - Done
Fit the cycle wing supports and bend them - that could be a fun job - Done
Fit the cycle wings - going to glue them on with good old PU adhesive - Done
Make a gear remote to move my gearstick back about 5"
SVA proof the front suspension and wings - i.e. edge strip everything!
Make indicator extensions - need to find some bits of nylon/ali long enough!
Fit the propshaft spacer - I wanted to push the prop another 25mm into the gearbox, so have made up an aluminium spacer for the job - Done
Fit transmission tunnel side panels - these will be riveted in along the bottom edge, and held in place by the tunnel top along the top edge
Make the tunnel top - think I am going to do this in 3 parts, and fold the edges down over the sides by 25mm. Then cover the whole thing with foam and vinyl and retain it with some rivnuts
Fix in gaiters for handbrake and gearstick
Make a dashboard - big job this one I think. Decided to go for a padded dash for SVA then swap for a flat carbon one after. - Done
Bolt the seatbelt and seats in
Adjust the pedals - Done
There, doesnt seem much when you say it quick! Going to be tight to get it all done though.
